What is the Composition Scheme?
The Composition Scheme under Section 10(1) & 10(2A) of the CGST Act, 2017, simplifies GST compliance for small taxpayers. Eligible businesses pay tax at a fixed percentage of turnover instead of regular rates. Key features include quarterly payments (Form CMP-08) and an annual return (Form GSTR-4). However, taxpayers under this scheme cannot claim Input Tax Credit (ITC), cannot collect tax from their customers, and are generally barred from making inter-State outward supplies.
What is LUT and who needs it?
A Letter of Undertaking (LUT) is a document furnished under Rule 96A of the CGST Rules, 2017, by a registered person to make zero-rated supplies (i.e., exports or supplies to a Special Economic Zone) without the payment of Integrated GST (IGST). It serves as an undertaking to the government that the exporter will fulfill all the requirements of export, failing which they will pay the applicable IGST along with interest.
